Immigrants and language aficionados alike can now learn Faroese through a free online language course, which is the result of a partnership between the University of the Faroe Islands and the University of Iceland.
The website faroese Online, offers interactive visual and listening exercises based on themes relevant to everyday-life in the Faroe Islands.
The online course is developed from a successful Icelandic initiative, which was launched by linguists at the University of Iceland back in 2004.
“The learning material is for foreigners with no prior knowledge of Faroese. One will learn words and phrases from everyday life,”
The Faroese publishing firm Stiðin has developed a language course presented in English, “Faroese – A Language Course for beginners”, consisting of a textbook, a CD and a grammar book. The material can be purchased in bookshops.
