Sommer institute
An International Summer Institute in Faroese Language is held yearly at the University of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn.

Programme

The University of the Faroe Islands holds an international summer institute in August offering an intensive and comprehensive introduction to Faroese language. The institute takes place at the University in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands and it lasts two and a half weeks.

Appr. 20 students are accepted at the institute, and university students from all countries can apply. Students must have documented knowledge of other Scandinavian or Germanic languages and know the basic concepts of grammar.

The academic programme is a comprehensive introduction to Faroese language.

Classes are scheduled five days a week. Monday through Friday, in the morning and the afternoon.

Languages of instruction will be Faroese and English. Class attendance is obligatory.

Students who pass a final test at the end of the course are provided with a certificate (10 ECTS/European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).

Cost

The tuition fee was DKK 6500 in 2021 and includes instruction, lectures and exam. Participants can expect to spend at least DKK 250 a day on food expenses.

Accommodation

Students will stay at Føroya Fólkaháskúli only 10-minute walk from the Department of Faroese. Accommodation cost was is DKK 1500 a week (DKK 4500) in 2021 and includes breakfast.
